In the cases of the underage girls I am thinking of; their circumstances are different to those of adult MAPs. When outed, the underage girls have no rights. Though I'm not personally aware of the involvement of criminal justice in the cases which have happened at the boards [I've read about such cases elsewhere though, so it is still possible] the girls still have been sent to shrinks and CPS has become involved; they've even been banned from using the internet at all. All of this isn't masochism: it's what has to be done to protect girls. (Or as the case may be in the BLue side, boys).


The cases of adult MAPs are different. We have a lot more civil rights just by being adult; so there are a lot more things that either we can do to protect ourselves, or enemies cannot do to attack or censor us. But still experiences vary. A well known MAP lost his son in a kangaroo court. Another well known MAP was illegally fired, and also extorted by FBI agents. Other out MAPs have unconstitutionally been deprived of well established civil rights. Other MAPs who have been out in RL but behind nicks on boards have faced false criminal charges, police harassment, and psychiatric imprisonment.

And then again, experiences vary. Some who are behind nicks but out in RL have been able to fight back and keep a decent life quality. Some are still in contact with girls openly.

Myself I'm in contact with many girls openly. And yet it's not always something perfect and I've faced dumb issues too. I've had to face corrupt CPS intervention; for a reasonable concern behind, I concede, but awfully executed by corrupt agents. That prevented me from seeing 2 girls and 1 boy for months and makes it nearly impossible that I will ever see them again regularly. And still it doesn't even actually improve their lives significantly, more so in the long term. I've had to face direct conflict with my family over one girl; and blackmail attempts over the same girl. I've had to face threats over another girl. And I've seen another girl (and her mother) be forced into CPS visits and shrink appointments over her relationship with me. I'm still not going to stop seeing girls, new or old. But the thing which is most painful and stupid is that overall the costs I am paying are bearable to me; but they are noticeably higher for all of those girls: they're suffering for me. And not just them: all of those have some sort of chain reaction effect over other girls who are not the ones directly involved.

It's not masochism; it's just that it isn't all sugar and spice and everything nice; that girls pay a higher price for it than we MAPs do; and that although nothing guarantees perfect security, the usage of nicks over real names provides one layer of protection. Maybe a very thin one, certainly one which has many ways to be torn, but still superior to not having it.

That said, you're not entirely wrong that there are many MAPs who are more addicted to victimization than interested in girls (or for that matter, on a real MAP community and strategy). I can easily think of a guy who is a long term poster here who is like that (no names, and to be clear, it's not one of the guys I have come into deep conflict with). I can easily think of a whole board devoted to self victimization, for that matter: Vichy Pedophiles. [Who I still think are a police sting operation. But still.] But it's an exaggerated view that victimization is so widespread or so predominant as idea. Well at least in the firmly pro contact atmospheres of GC and BC.
