The views ascribed to me here have virtually nothing to do with any views I expressed. I fear we're back to the days where I sometimes sadly conclude, "Hmmm, Dante is being incoherent again".
A summary: I say that sex is special in society today, not like swimming. I further say that it isn't just social convention that makes it special -- there are innate forces that tend to mold our views about it in certain directions, and make man-girl sex perilous, and that peril hard to eliminate with simple changes in societal attitudes. If you do start breaking with our traditions, you could end up in various dystopias, such as sex being nearly obligatory if just one party is interested. Retaining positive values we hold about sex is no sure thing. But this point is something of an aside to the main argument. |
