The word has been stretched, distorted, and misused for a variety of agendas so much over the past 30 years that it can now pretty much mean anything the person using it wants it to mean. It's more often used by the public and the media to foster a certain type of emotional reaction more so than anything to do with an accurate clinical description of a specific attraction base.
