Without going into detail, I appreciate your final suggestions as a list of reasonable improvements to the current system. But I see it as a moderate position and far removed from true child liberation. It sounds like a system where you are paying close attention to what the child wants, but not actually giving them the full power to just do what they want.

In terms of my initial scenario, it sounds like you're in favor of holding on to Dolores long enough to present her with options and explain them to her, etc. and not just let her take off on a whim (at least I take that to be in line with your beliefs).

The reason I think Lolita is worth thinking about is that the fictional portrayal does seem quite plausible in the particular matter of Dolores's ambivalence about Humbert and the sort of life he is offering her and her perception of the alternatives.
