I have always said that you don't do this for yourself when you have to. You do this when they're ready to hear it.

I came out to my Dad when we were discussing anime girls. ( He introduced me to comic books when I was a wee tyke, I introduced him to Anime and Manga when I was an adult. ) And he diverted the topic to praise PNVD. When he was supporting out Pedophile activists I had good reason to believe that he might be amenable. :)
