We do need research. There are several good reasons.

But the struggles are never going to be won by research. They are political in nature and as such are only going to be won politically. Historically, political achievement tends to come first and unbiased, scientifically sound research comes later. The pattern is not universal, but it is prevalent. If anything, I think there are many good bases for research already. It is not yet as complete as could be, but it is far from an empty basket. I see the political basket as emptier at this moment.
