Comparisons to Gravity don't count. Gravity is a fact. Comparisons to THEORIES of gravity do count. Say, Aristotle's notion that objects float or fall because of where they belong?
And not only is the notion that rocks fall to earth because they're made of earth not factually true; it also affirms prejudices about social stratifications where everyone has a place they belong.
There are many different theories about how we ended up with a Majoritarian society. You claim yours to be fact when facing others and only rarely acknowledge that it is a theory; and never entertain other theories.
We are defining theory differently. I view it as a theory in the same sense that evolution is a theory: it's essentially all but proven. So, in that sense theory and fact are pretty much interchangeable. But whatever. I'm not going to argue with you again about why you misunderstand and misrepresent what the Social Contract is. You already know my position on it.
Actually, they are.
Actually, they're not.
While the two systems might accidentally arrive at the same conclusion, they can just as equally depart.
But they don't have to, which is the point. They can work in tandem, which is pretty much the definition of 'not mutually exclusive.' Individual rights make people happier, so that in itself serves the greater good, because happier people are less likely to start violent revolutions. It is only when the individual rights are carried too far that run counter to the greater good; it's a balancing act. The rest is moot.
