I am under the impression that most pedophiles are anti-contact, and also self-hating and isolated. Pro-contact may be the majority of the online pedophile community, but the pedophile community is a definite minority among pedophiles.
Considering that the majority of pedophiles appear to be anti-contact, how does self-interest apply?
There may also be a considerable number of nons who are pro-contact, but simply are too afraid to state so publicly. When everyone around you is signalling that it is absolutely unacceptable to state any opinion less extreme than "death to all pedophiles", many who feel otherwise will repeat the hue and cry out of a simple sense of self-preservation.
If, as I suspect, much of the public regards the panic over adult-child sex to be unreasonable, I can certainly understand an appeal to bias due to self-interest - but it does not fit your interpretation of what this means.
