The relevant waiting period here is the one between fertility and "adulthood."

There are no species in which fertility is not the definition of adulthood. None.

There is only one species so practiced at deception that it can declare this to be the case with a straight face. ( Although some of our fellow apes demonstrate enough Theory of Mind to lie to their fellows. So maybe its only a matter of time before a Chimp with several offspring can be declared to be a juvenile by her fellows. )

And ain't it funny how Ghod decided to time the arrival at the capacity for abstract thought to coincide with the arrival of our delayed puberty? Its like a f*ckin' conspiracy to tell us something.
