I was exaggerating just a little bit, but trying to make the point that we have a very long way to go to acceptance of even celibate pedos. I believe there are a great many ACLU members and sympathizers who feel pedophiles are different -- fundamentally criminals. If they accept that some of us are celibate, their principles should require them to accept us, but the revulsion is so strong that it's still no easy battle.

If even 10% of the population really got it, it could make a huge difference. Psychology studies show that when in a group no one states a different view, then people easily go along with the majority. But if one person speaks up and says, "Well, I know the child molesters are really awful, but just because someone's a pedo doesn't mean he's going to molest kids -- so locking him up isn't fair. No, really -- they are people too." then people stop and think.
