Someone, somewhere, must have the responsibility to set rules for the kids, teach them how to function in society, teach them how to interact with others, etc.

...why?

For that matter, not so long ago in the US, all your assertions were 'true' of women. Should they be true of women? Why or why not?

Not that long ago, in the US, the same was 'true' of african-americans. Should it be true of african-americans? Why or why not?

If I remember correctly, in both the US and Canada, persons descended from the original inhabitants are - still - considered wards of the state. Should your assertions be true for them? Why or why not?

...and getting back to the first question - should it be true for... anyone? Why or why not?

Last but not least, I'll add one more question - who performs this role for the people who think it is their "responsibility" to set rules for others?

Finally, what would you do to cultures - or those descended from cultures - in which this is not true? Does your answer fit into the rules you set for "how to interact with others" for most people? If not, why is this different?
