Thank you. You are absolutely correct on the promise. Twice. Verbal. with it implied on the second time that I would deviate from what the mothers wishes are.

The first time was when I first started taking care of her. I promised while I was taking care of her I would keep her from harm. And many, many other things for that matter.

The second time was after the parents nearly got into an accident that could have killed them. In which I swore that as long as I am alive, I would look after Abby, do everything I could to make sure she healthfully grows into the amazing person she will be, that I would follow the mothers wishes with respect to the kid, that I would adopt her if necessary, and that I would never knowingly allow her to come to harm. I swore all this with the knowledge that it was not my wishes I was swearing to with regards to harm, but the mothers.

She had better live a very long time though because I am worried that I am not a good enough person to entrusted with Abby. And that child needs her mother.
