I like some moderately famous people, but, like you said, it's the talent that draws me in. Musicians who inspire my own musical endevours. Those musicians aren't exactly popular now and wern't really popular in their own day either. So it's not like they're going to be plastered all over the news or anything. Example, when Lux Interior died, I found out a few days later via the internet, but if he were some huge star that everyone loved it would have been all over the news.
