Fabrication and creation

Of course the problem is not fabricated.

But it was created by decades of myopic American foreign policy: blind support of Israel, blind support for despotic regimes as long as they kept the black liquid flowing (remember the Shah? and we're just creating another Islamic Revolution the way the West treats Saudi Arabia), and blind arming of the-enemy-of-my-enemy (Hussein to contain Khomeini, bin Laden to contain the USSR) - all of them pursuing short term goals (and relatively successful at doing that) but making ever harder to build long term stability and reliable allies. There are few grievances, legitimate and not, in today's radical Islamic terror, that are not linked to critical mistakes in Western, and particularly American (with the USA being the Western world's de facto leader) policy towards the Middle East. In some of those issues it seems the West, and the USA, is finally getting things right (and credit where it is due: the change started not with Obama but with Bush); in some others it still doesn't.
