Do you think we are any safer in the hands of judges and other court officials (in the event that juries were not aware of their veto rights), who are actually subject to the publics wrath whenever they make a decision the public does not like?

I believe that officials are afraid to make too unpopular a decision for fear of their life or job or social status. So are we really in better hands, if the jury knows not of their true power?
