"Reich theorized that without the suppression of sexuality and the imposition of anti-sexual morality, you could not have an authoritarian government, because people would be free from shame, and would trust their own sense of right and wrong. Such people are unlikely to march to war against their wishes, and we would like to think they would be unlikely to agree to operate the death camps too."

Easton, Dossie, and Liszt, Catherine. 1997. The Ethical Slut: A Guide to Infinite Sexual Possibilities.

"Decades ago, Wilhelm Reich noted that the society that can control its people's sexuality can control them completely. I, for one, still hold out hope that the reverse is true: that people who have the permission and information necessary to become their best sexual selves will demand (and create) a social system that works for people... including of course their health, their sex and relationship choices, their pleasure."

Carol Queen, Ph.D. Founding director, Center for Sex & Culture

On sex-positivity:

"It’s the cultural philosophy that understands sexuality as a potentially positive force in one’s life, and it can, of course, be contrasted with sex-negativity, which sees sex as problematic, disruptive, dangerous. Sex-positivity allows for and in fact celebrates sexual diversity, differing desires and relationships structures, and individual choices based on consent."

Queen, Carol and Comella, Lynn. (2008). "The Necessary Revolution: Sex-Positive Feminism in the Post-Barnard Era." The Communication Review 11(3):274–291.

Today people commonly ignore the empirical truth that the ability to consent spans beyond an arbitrary age range. The scientific case for this is already made, and only strengthening with time. The sex-negative ageists have been able to rig the debate in their favor through censorship, both de facto such as in the form of stigmas and taboos and de jure such as in the form of legal prohibitions and red tape. These barriers are on their way out. The sooner enough of us realize that and act accordingly, the sooner the sex-negative ageist order will be toppled altogether.
