For one thing, I am quite angry with Polanksi for giving the girl alcohol and quaaludes. I think any type of substance that is intended to "relax" girls or women and lower their inhibitions to make them more amenable to sexual activity are NOT an honorable thing for men to do. Me too. But again, Samantha knew that alcohol and other drugs were available in the premises. If I go to Vegas, I cannot be shocked that there is gambling and I sure cannot lay all the blame elsewhere if I lose all my money at the tables. Even if the substances make this specific exchange not be in the league of consensual, neither is it in the league of forcible rape or even in the league where the drug consumption is nonconsensual (ie, spiked drinks that were not supposed to be intoxicating). But even with the absolute worst case scenario of forcible rape, Samantha has since forgiven him and believes the case should no longer be pursued the charges should always be pressed by the victim and dropped by the victim. If she cannot drop the charges at will, then the DA isn't respecting her body autonomy anymore than Polanski did. The law should be there to adjudicate upon request, not against request. And it's also still hard to see any benefit for anyone except the DAs in having Polanski jailed now. Well, at least when he's released we'll all be able to find his address on the public registry. I suppose that'll be cool for all his fans who want to have his autograph. ![]() |
