To pull a Rudolph, remember 9/11. Now, if you'd known in advance that there was a threat to people in a specific building on a specific date, wouldn't you want to protect people from it? If it were say, some kind of easily curable virus, and people could go about their days by just taking an innoculation (comparable to demonstrating awareness of danger, understanding of it, and picking a proper name) then it would make sense to do it.
If this is going to turn into an excessive anti-psychiatry place then I may as well leave, and you guys can go play with Hubbard or something. You do need to be intelligent to be a psychiatrist. Many kind people become psychiatrists. I know you're sore about pedophilia being a disorder, but that should not lead a reasonable person to dismiss the entire field of study on those grounds.
If you take a look at what you've just posted, there is an inference that if you are not against psychiatry, you are hateful, a vigilante, or me. I can only take that as a personal attack inferring that I am hateful and/or a vigilante. This kind of inference shows a serious cognitive distortion in your thinking sir.
Yes, a lot of antis/haters/vigilantes support psychiatry. So what? They probably support the troops and support health care too. It is possible to like things for the right reasons while disliking other things for the wrong reasons. Or, they could like it for the wrong reasons, for the isolated errors, rather than the positive effects the entire field can give.
I have not given the impression that all psychiatrists are reasonable or just. I don't like your inferences. You have continually attacked me, turning around my accusations because I criticize you. To be honest, this seems a lot like how people attack a lot of antis saying "no, you are the child abusers!" and other stuff. It is 'hateful' in the true sense of the word, coming to the most extreme conclusions about people's motivations. Please try to be more considerate of less despicable motivations people may have.
There have not been 'plenty' of warnings. That is the whole issue. In assessing the scope of this, there is a lack of them. People should demonstrate informedness before being allowed to do something that is potentially dangerous to themself and others. This is already the case for medicine and driving the car, and it should be the case for having sex and posting on a board that can get you hurt by terrorists, be they pro or anti ones.
