I think people who say "thank god my dad beat me" are idiots. They've suffered abuse, and are rationalizing for their abusers. There are always alternatives to violence. Use of force should be restricted to immediate danger. Such as, gripping someone firmly and not allowing them to move if they are trying to go or do somewhere/thing dangerous.

Beating the shit out of someone for an 'incident' is not proper parenting. Maybe you traumatize someone for life so that they never do that something, but that creates a weak shell of an individual.

If the only reason you don't go to prison is out of illogical fear of repercussions from an allpresent allseeing violent father figure, then this is really no different from the three Abrahamic religions, which are similarly abusive and create shells of individuals.

If the guy did a stupid incident as a kid, the father should have found the eloquence to relay how fucking stupid it was, and connect that with the guy's values. Defending that makes him a pathetic guy who never broke free of his father's influence and who will probably remain subserviant to life, and furthermore, he's such a tool that he's giving voice to justify further abuse of children.
