I pretty much agree with most of this. The fact is that all children are different and need very different means of discipline to stop them from misbehaving. Some of the more quiet and sensitive natured ones will only need a reprimand to steer them right, while more obnoxious children actually will react to discipline in no other way except some degree or another of physical punishment. I remember some time back listening to radio talk back on the issue of corporal punishment, and one guy had phoned in to say "Thank God my ol' man gave me the hiding of my life over that incident, otherwise I probably would have ended up in prison by now if it wasn't for his firm hand. Maybe at the time I didn't like it, but today I bloody well THANK him for it!"
