So in your eyes, being a "parent" means being a harsh disciplinarian? I think what madpenguin meant was parents who bully their kids. Sometimes kids need to be told to stop doing something, but at the same time, many parents bully their children simply because they have the power to do so. They hit their kids over silly things, force them to attend church if they don't want to, force them to take on a certain type of education when the child in question may know they are unsuited for it...are you saying that you agree with this type of behavior, Neut? Because your response was out of synch with the point of madpenguin's question.

Personally, I haven't seen ENOUGH parents who try to show some respect for kids. Again, I'm NOT saying that kids shouldn't be told to stop doing something if what they are doing is harmful to themselves or to others, but at the same time too many parents go much too far with this. Being a "friend" to your child and being a parent shouldn't be mutually exclusive, and I'm a bit shocked to hear this type of thing from you, Neut.
