Libertarians are about Individual Resposibility...

and small government. Everybody is free to do and believe as they wish as long as they don't harm another person or violate another person's rights. The only downside to this, as you mentioned, is that the poor will also have to fend for themselves. The government will have very little involvement in anything, except protecting the right's of every single person, including the most hated minorities like us. Certainly adult-child sex will still be illegal, but at least we can talk about it all we want, fight to change the law, and not fear being arrested for it or having our privacy violated.

Ultimately, small government will always be the best policy, despite the downsides. THe more control you give the government(on anything), the more you risk turning into a totaltarian state.
