Eh, two sensible votes by a couple of Southern Republicans, one who's pretty far outside of what has become the Republican mainstream at this point, is hardly reassuring to me.

Republicans have been largely responsible for getting us into the mess we're in now regarding SO registries, etc. (Newt's Contract with American in the early 90s suggested longer jail terms for CP, etc.). Not that Democrats haven't completely gone along with all this, against their better instincts of protecting privacy and civil liberties. Because at the end of the day, no one wants to look like they're sympathetic toward pedophiles. But Repuplicans have definitely been worse.

As for Libertarians, I dig their positions on civil liberties, but I'm not in favor of cutting social programs to the extent they often are. I do want to say, though, that at one point, many, many years ago, the Libertarian Party supported relaxing the age of consent.
