He should not avoid because it would be inherantly harmful, but because it is the law and it's doubly irresponsible to involve others in illegal activity even if they would not be convicted for it, they would suffer from the trial and inquisition, especially if you try to plead 'not guilty'. It rarely recognizes that.

I'm not really following this closely, but, while hardly ideal, it is not unrealistic for this man to consider his urges and potential acts "vile" or what-have-you. Consider folks who've posted here about having once been in that boat, having such beliefs reinforced or installed in them by mental workers.
