...is "attracted" to the power of raping (or as you put it: He is attracted to wanting power over or wanting to brutalise his victim.)...I think the rapist feels a NEED to impose his power on someone "weaker" than him. So, it's not so much an "attraction" that draws him...it's a desire to inflict serious hurt on another human being to make the rapist feel more powerful. That person feels this desire and then chooses to act on it. I am sure many people fantasize about this kind of thing...but it takes a real "special" kind of loser to act on it and violently, brutaly rape someone.

I do understand what you're trying to say however...there must be SOMETHING about the idea of rape that appeals to a rapist (or "attracts" him to it, as it were)...it's just another example of how one word can have very different meanings given its context.
