I think Demosthenes was too hard on Asterix.
Sure, Asterix made a bad choice of words - copying the phrase "predatory pedophile". We should make a clear distinction between pedophiles (attracted to children) and child molestors. As has been repeated many times here, it turns out that most pedophiles are not molestors, and most molestors are not pedophiles. While there is a small overlap that might be called "predatory pedophiles", the term most certainly should not be applied to the vast majority of molestors who have no attraction to children. Nonetheless, it was clear that Asterix was not trying to denigrate the attraction to children, but was simply trying to find a way to make a clear distinction between the two classes. That makes him a bit unobservant, in my opinion (because we've talked about this numerous times), but it hardly makes him an anti. |
