i think its fair to say a lot of kids react to emotional bonds outside the family w/ some confusion & anxiety. in the sense that sexual relationships are typically & ideally also emotional ones, i think romances can easily be disturbing for kids in a way they aren't for adults, who have left the nest (hopefully).

i'm not saying this is bad or good, it just is. kids are kids. they need care. the romantic attachment of a child is a big responsibility.
