Think about it THIS way. I know more people who are OK with homosexuals fully exercising their civil liberties, but who are still uncomfortable with homosexuality when its up close and personal. Its a step in the right direction if they think that you shouldn't be illegal even if they're personally weirded-out. Full endorsement and empathy are better. But some folks need to be nudged in the right direction.

Of course you have a better idea of whether she thinks you should be tolerated, converted, or thrown in the hoosegow. Far too many folks believe that their personal tastes are "natural" and everyone else's are "wrong." That kind of programming runs deep. Maybe the young lady isn't ready to be let into the big outdoors where not everyone thinks as she does?
