The media has been doing exactly that (well generally) for generations.

You watch a TV program, they put advertisements on for things they think the people watching will want to see.

You go to Amazon, they put "we think you might like this" stuff there,

most popular culture is about "thinking for you", making choices for you, making things easier for you - in this mind frame you are encouraged to think like the masses, and go with the flow - public schooling teaches as much.
