Girl, 12, forced to be prostitute, police say

TORONTO - City police say they've rescued a 12-year-old girl who was forced into prostitution at age 10.

"It's shocking," Det. Reuben Stroble said Thursday. "It's hard to believe that this is happening in the city of Toronto."

Police said the girl was taken from an apartment last Tuesday and placed in the care of the Children's Aid Society.

Police said they were investigating several Toronto-area men for pimping the child to pedophiles through a network of apartments.

Officers allege the pimps alerted johns to different apartments where the girls would be, and they would show up and pay for sex acts.

"She was moved from place to place," Stroble said. "It is hard to believe there is a market for this."

Prior to this girl, the youngest prostitute known to Toronto police was an 11-year-old girl found working in a massage parlour in 1999.

I find it bizarre that this could take place without anyone becoming aware of it and alerting the police sooner. How would they advertise? How would they find a market? Strange. It boggles the mind.
