I am a free person and I know that I, alone, am morally responsible for everything I do. I would never want to remove a government simply because I didn't like it. It's there and functioning (for the most part) so I let it be as it is. (I don't vote for that reason.) But, I am free no matter what rules surround me. If I find them tolerable, I tolerate them; if I find them too obnoxious, I break them. That's pretty much from a quote by Robert A. Heinlein, by the way.
No, I am not an anarchist in the normal sense. I think Heinlein defined himself (as I have adopted to a degree) as a "rational anarchist." No, I don't categorize myself as a Capitalist, nor am I a Socialist. I'm just me looking out for me.... and anyone I love. I will help a friend if I think I can afford it, simply because he is a friend. I will pitch in during a threatened flood, fire, or some such societal need, of course. But I wouldn't let my farm be washed away simply because the town's people needed my tractor. So long as the horse is going the way I want, I will feed it and let it drag my wagon behind him. |
