"One bored person could pacify a few entire cities without incident."
A bit of hyperbole, with a surprising amount of truth to it. I have found that one person openly doubting and casting aspersions on Anti claims, and doing so only among a few co-workers and people randomly encountered on the street in a genial and understated manner, can slowly change the tone of the discussion in an entire region. Of course this requires considerable knowledge of the facts and an ability to think on one's feet, knowing when to press the point home and when to allow people to continue for a while in their delusions. It is not something to be undertaken lightly. Still, a few words of public disagreement with the status quo go a long way, because it allows other people to publicly disagree too. The more people hear alternative viewpoints, the more those viewpoints become publicly acceptable and the more we give others permission to hold those views themselves. |
