"Provision off the enemy."
- Sun Tzu, paraphrased. Also, everyone else.

What do people think about using solid research to help educate people about pedophiles really are?

Heh. You've got it backwards, IMO - start the education. Have the research.

In previous canvassing efforts (which are pretty damn successful), our most convincing asset was our detractors. One can get a bit of traction from "hey, I kinda like this little babyqueer dude," but mostly we gain from the fact that there is no way to predicate one's self on hatred of others without being a little off-putting.

So, speak up. They'll spout off a lot of random bullshit, which generally falls into two categories :

1. Wrong without outside evidence. Self-contradiction and bullshit so vapid as to have no inherent meaning falls into this category.

2. Wrong in the face of evidence. Most of this doesn't take full-fledged "research" - "children can't consent" is structurally flawed enough that it falls at the border of #1 (and the only "research" one needs for the "is it a sexual orientation" question is the english-language definition of "oriented towards," it's a bit more like a compass needle than a Magic Talisman of Power(tm)), and the whole "they has no sexual urges" myth can be blown away with a handful of parenting forums and the ever-present "damn, my kid is a total wanker" questions.

Be informed on all the research, so you can address #2 across all its instances - but most of the time, all you'll need is a dictionary and maybe a site-search of any parenting forum on the web. One can even skip that much work with the willingness to add the text "(citation needed)."

In the net result, a clear and consistent message gets spread : 1. our detractors are wrong, and 2. our detractors are unpleasant jackasses.

And both of these messages are spread by our detractors themselves. The "enemy" is our propaganda machine.

#1 is not likely to get fixed unless they change their opinion, lol - coincidental fact. #2, however, is far more structural; the word "anti" is far more generalized than this topic, and someone who actually cared about the topic would spend far more effort trying to construct solutions to enhance options of those affected than to try to be against "those guys," which tends to indicate either sadistic psychopathy or extreme esteem deficiencies - they're either trying to get away with it, or trying to be worth as much as their persun-of-straw.

It's a solid message... and we've got a little under 5% of the population to spread it, any time we feel like saying "I don't believe that." ;)

But... yes, be informed. It's good. 'n it helps.
