And visitors are that, visitors. As welcome and loved as they may be, they are still guests, not partners.

Otoh, yes, I know acculturation is an ass.

The solution of allowing her this private time/place is not ideal. At all. But it is probably the least invasive you can find without undermining other aspects of acculturation.
