Another afternoon with her

Elle was looking especially lovely today. Over her jeans and t-shirt she was wearing this beautiful pink ballerina tutu with flowers around the waistband and her long black hair tied into a pleated ponytail. I laid low for the first few hours of her visit. There's other adults in the household vying for her attention so I just let things run their course and didn't push it, mostly because I don't want to appear to be over eager.

Inevetibly her attention turned to me and she came into my room with her little brother in tow. My room is a bit of kid magnet as I have a collection of various old toys (cars, trucks, trains and sci-fi) that they love. She'd pick out a toy, play with it for about 5 minutes then ask for a different one. This went on for about an hour and a half. She also loves sitting in my computer chair while I spin her around. Then there's the endless questions, "What's that?"........."What's that?".........."What's that?" mostly about the various posters and pictures on my wall. Unsurprisingly, I've got a few Pink Floyd posters on my wall, although she did ask some rather awkward questions about Floyd's "Back Catalogue" poster. (Don't kinow what I mean? Google it, I'd be violating rule 2 if I posted a link)

I decided that this was the ideal oppurtunity to introduce her to some of the music in my collection so I put on my ipod and started scrolling through at random. She took a special liking to Queen's "We Will Rock You" and I had to play it over again about 4 times as she just loved clapping her hands to its pounding beat. Meanwhile, I had to make sure that nothing important (like my car keys or mobile phone) had been removed from my room and "misplaced" by her little brother. It was a fun time but rather trying.

Soon it was dinner time so we ate and they left soon after. It seems to be my job to carry her to the car, put her into her seat and get her buckled in safely. It's a great chance for some final time with her and give her a kiss or two goodbye.

Elle will be 4 in a couple of months (already!) and is making good progress at preschool. She's just learned to spell her name out loud and is starting to grasp basic adding and subtracting. Her teachers speak very highly of the progress she's making and how keen she is to learn. I'm so proud of her.

P.S. What's happening with the GC search feature? There's a topic I wanted to post about and I wanted to check if it's been discussed before but found it wasn't working.
