It sounds like you are reasoning away taking any action to help people.

I personally think there are some absolute right and wrongs in this world.
If someone is self harming then I don't need a philosophical debate about whether I'm helping them to help myself before helping them. If someone is about to take their own life, I don't need to ponder why I'm helping them or whether I'm changing their view of just offering free advice.

Beyond that if I see a friend taking harmful drugs and getting sick or I see a friend unhappy and in a dark place in a relationship then I will be a friend and talk to them, offering support and help and encourage them to get help whether professionally or from my and other friends and family. I don't believe the loving thing to do is to ponder whether I'm gaining from helping or whether I'm coercing them to be safe then do nothing.

As for chemicals in beef, I don't think that's a helpful point. There are harmful chemicals in most products but most people do appreciate there's a difference between shooting highly addictive and damaging drugs and having a steak. I used to smoke, family and friends would often ask me to stop, I knew they had my interests at heart so I didn't take offense.

Throughout my life I can think of many examples of people who have told me things I didn't want to hear, things that hurt but they helped me and for that I am grateful to them. This includes times when people have encouraged me to change my mind and with that support and help I've made smarter decisions.

We can disagree on these points for me it's in my nature to offer support and help when I see friends and family unhappy. I do that because I've had friends and family do that for me throughout my life and it has helped me over and over.
