That's still God you're comparing it too. Perfection is in relationship to a goal, ambition or purpose. A crack in an otherwise smooth ceramic surface is a flaw if smoothness is what you aimed for, or a feature if texture was what you were aiming for. Nature has no aim by which to evaluate a failing. We are tempted towards anthropocentrism and even argue that cancers are an "imperfection" because proper cellular reproduction serves the goals we would like to ascribe to nature. But perfection isn't in it. Nature is undirected. At least to an Atheist like me. Dante |
