We should be capable of thinking abstractly.

We may live in a world of proximations where the math doesn't work out right all the time. Still, I'd fire the architect and hire another if the first cannot even see the value in getting the sums right.

Freedom in the world is always proximate. But it only has meaning because we can speak about what it is when its not muddied up. Limiting freedom only to the offerings between existing menu choices should leave us with the first version when it was the only choice on the menu. And I'm not sure I want to scratch every accomplishment which has been achieved.

I don't have enough religion to think that living in a world of proximations makes me a bad person. But I know that I can be a better person. And that compromising on improvement isn't a virtue in itself.

Within our imaginations we should be free.
