What is needed is vast increases in taxes in the western world to stop the suffering in those far off places. We all neeed to be little poorer and a little well fed so that food and medical aid can be more evenly distributed.

That's not how things work in the real world. Taxes collected in Western countries are almost entirely used either domestically or are used in the interests of those countries and their allies. So there is no direct link between higher taxes in Western countries and stopping the suffering of those living in abject poverty. Furthermore, one of the biggest problems is that political instability and corruption in those countries means that mainly a select few reap the benefits of the aid that is sent. Higher taxes doesn't solve that problem, if anything it gives the corrupt power structure more incentive to keep their population in poverty and keep requesting and then stealing foreign aid. You also don't need to raise taxes in order to send foreign aid. We already have more than enough resources to do so, it's all about prioritizing where we spend our resources. The US in particular spends an inordinate amount on defense and military. We could actually cut taxes, cut spending on wasteful military expenditures, and still have more than enough left over for social benefits for our own poor population as well as foreign aid for the world's poor. Your communistic idea of collective suffering is just awful and unnecessary I'm afraid.

Who supports that?

Thankfully just a relative few on the fringe these days. Communism has never panned out in real life, unlike capitalistic societies or mixed economies.
