"Rather ironic that a girl is allowed to buy contraception without parental approval, even have an abortion without parental approval in liberal states, and even forced to have a STD vaccination; all of this while being illegal to have sex with. But if her parents pay for her room, allow her to use the family home, or even show her a Kama Sutra book or educational pronz, then they are in trouble..."
Even more ironic insofar as Ethan's parents' librul attitude towards drugs could've emperilled him by whisking him away from their care and into a famously abusive foster care system. As a parent I find it strange that negligent parenting in matters of drugs or drinking is what they system is designed to promote. At best its, "Don't do it, but if you do, don't let me know about it." Whereas, actual supervision and advice which isn't state-sanctioned is criminal. I suspect that most enlightened parents choose to act as criminals hoping not to be caught "keeping informed" than following the law by saying "don't" and then not following through. But that's just my suspicion, because its not as if my parents or myself could've faced this conundrum. * ahem * Dante |
