Yeah, it's tragic all around. Having read a few more articles, the consensus seems to be that with the gun ranges that don't have age restrictions (there are 28 states that mandate them), they don't typically let smaller children and/or beginners handle automatic weapons. They like to start them out with smaller arms first and then let them handle more challenging weapons as their experience/size grows. Seems sensible to me. Hopefully, the range this man was employed by will revisit their policies and perhaps other ranges will also revisit their own and try to ensure the safety of both visitors as well as employees.
