"YOU were lucky enough to have hippy parents."

Wrong generation.

They could've been beatniks, but they weren't cool enough. They did, however, delay having kids before it became THE thing to do. So many of my peers had hippy parents. Heck, an elementary school friend ACTUALLY lived in a geodesic dome.

My folks were actually rather asexual and neurotic. But they both knew that something was wrong with their upbringing and were determined not to pass any puritanism on.

Still, it was a childhood heavy on liberal theory, but no sex-positive practice. AFAIK the last time they had sex was the night me and my twin were conceived. My mum later confessed to an almost nonexistent libido. And my pa was the more messed up in his upbringing. Though its hard to tell because he never speaks about it.

Studies tend to show that no matter how much folks find someone whose attitudes the parent might differ from, there's still more genetic similarity than random romantic selection would suggest.

Westermarck imprinting creates a feeling of an incest taboo towards parents and siblings. The Israeli Kibbutz study shows that this is based on the caregiver and the children one is raised with, and NOT on genetic similarity. Further too many centuries of British upper class attending live-away boarding schools shows that when Westermarck bonding is prevented, kid sis becomes very attractive indeed.
