It would be great to know some statistics on this kind of thing. In retrospect, you'd say he should have immediately forwarded the suggestive email to his supervisor to keep himself cleaner. Yet the supervisor might have found fault because perhaps he had been friendly (gasp!) earlier. And students might have some expectation that their teacher isn't going to rat on them if they say something a bit out of line.

And who knows how many hundreds of incidents of this kind happen with a girl who has a shred of decency and doesn't call the police out of spite. Who knows how many teachers give in and get blow jobs from students who have already given them to their peers on many occasions.

My guess is that she was already a developed teen, so it really has nothing to do with pedophilia or girl love.

The use of '"virtuous" self-loathing' kind of sounds like it's directed at me, and it makes me roll my eyes. I have met self-loathing pedophiles online, and they would never take a job working with minors they are attracted to in the first place. Prudence about iatrogenic harm is a sign of health, while prudence including doubting whether iatrogenic harm is the whole story convicts a person of self-loathing. Does not compute.
