Disney Pushes The Envelope Ever So Slightly

Last night, I watched the new Disney Channel movie, "How To Build A Better Boy," starring the beautiful Kelli Berglund, from Disney XD's "Lab Rats." It's the typical Disney fluff, girl can't find date to Homecoming, so she and her best friend accidentally make one using a military robot. OK, there seems nothing wrong with that. Well, Kelli's character is a high school sophomore and one assumes that if this robot is supposed to pass for a soldier, it would look at least and does in the movie 18-20 years old. More like college student or student teacher then high school student. Yet, no one says anything. Also, Kelli has only recently turned 18, but the film was made last year when she was 17 and the actor who, Marshall Williams, who plays "Albert," the military robot, was 23-24. They don't kiss, but still you have an adult male in a relationship with a minor girl both in the film and with the actors playing them.

BTW, love the conservative, but still sexy clothes Kelli wore. Maybe Kelli can be the new Rachel Leigh Cook.

During one of the commercial breaks, they showed parts of Ariana Grande's new video "Break Free." She going the Miley route by dressing in more revealing clothing. In the video, she wears a bustier, does a semi-Barberella strip routine and destroys a robot with boob missiles. Now, you know that after watching those clips, tweens and teens are going to look it up online or have already done so. "Where did you find out that trash?" asks the mother. "I saw it on Disney!"

Maybe Disney is trying to go the Nick route and be less saccharine in its programming.
