From a mental health stance self acceptance needs to be complete. Work with other minorities and orientations demonstrate that there are no half-measures in rejecting self-loathing. And that allowing the seeds of shame to fester only compromises health.

Do you have references supporting that view?

Of course Virtuous Pedophiles encourages pedophiles not to loathe themselves and encourages them to be proud -- provided they personally are not engaging children sexually. The fact that others do so does not have to dent one's pride. I think that would be tremendous progress, though you specifically frame things to say that is not enough, that the remaining seed means the whole enterprise is rotten to the core.

To me, the sensible solution is to recognize that (1) Yes, you are missing something, and (2) Yes, you are fine just the way you are -- you can be proud. I would invite gay people into this paradigm as well, and of course pedophiles.

Even if everyone conceded that children could consent, pedophile love is still very problematic. You (Dante) keep mentioning that it is the principle of the thing that is so important, and how many girls might be interested in sexual activity has nothing to do with it. But there is a severe shortage of girls, they grow and change quickly, they can't relate to us symmetrically, etc. The step of "Yes, there is a girl somewhere and I could know in advance it would be just fine!" seems to have such deep weight here. Whether there would be enough girls that an ordinary pedophile would have a decent chance of satisfaction or not doesn't matter -- but in terms of human happiness it matters a lot.

Imagine a class of thousands of people who are attracted only to the most beautiful 25-year-old woman in the world (determined on New Year's Day each year :-)), and Big Data advances to the point where it can identify this woman. And imagine another class who love only the most beautiful 8-year-old girl in the world. Are the first class happy because in principle the 25yo woman might choose them as the lucky one? And the others should be ecstatic if they believe the 8-year-old can consent -- and devastated if they believe she can't?
