As for the general public feeling so intimidated that they don't even dare to mention their views -- the internet provides anonymity to everyone who wants it, not just pedophiles. Such concerns would surely surface in the other anonymous forums people belong to, where they are free to say whatever they like. You might expect libertarian forums in particular to gather a critical mass of such opinion, but to my knowledge they do not. The now defunct AnonTalk was known to have a majority of posters agreeing on AOC reform. Now, the problem there would be separating the trolls. AT was also known for extensive trolling, and took over its timespan several de-anonymizing measures trying to reduce that trolling. As for libertarians, they mostly adhere to an absolute Parental Rights framework, much like Goethe on BC does. This is partly (and it is obvious in the way they argue it) because of encroachments of the state on parental authority in many issues. It is a logical reaction. And overall, it is a libertarian reaction. But it does have some consequences which are not libertarian. One of them is secondary support for the AOC. "Government must not intervene in my family, but if my kid has sex, bang"! The main exception are Peaceful Parenting leaning libertarians, but they are fewer than Parental Rights libertarians. And even they usually lay back again into considering children unable to consent. Although many of them would consider teens as able to consent and would lower any AOC to the 13-15 region. |
