If it was an older lady, she was probably thinking she enjoyed such dolls so much in her youth that she wanted to pass them on to a girl who could appreciate them. Yes, this was not the way to do this but she probably imagined it as a pleasant surprise for these girls. She almost certainly grew up before such dolls were used in horror movies, probably never saw such movies, and had no idea that such dolls could provoke a feeling of creepiness.

After all, in her day those were the best dolls available. Collectible dolls of that type can still sell for thousands. For older ladies who adored such dolls in their youth, the idea that they were long ago surpassed by far more life-like dolls made of synthetic materials doesn't compute. She views them from the perspective of her own childhood. Likewise she views the prospect of a gift left on the doorstep from the perspective of her own childhood - as a kind gesture rather than a creepy one.

Frankly, I like her world more than ours.
