Nabakov
Who's that supposed to be?

The querulous gawk of
A heron at night
Prompts Nabokov
To write.

[a little poem VN wrote to teach his students the correct (approximate) pronunciation of his name]

Actually, VN gives one of Sellers' scenes ("the macabre ping-pong scene") as an example of an "appropriate and delightful" extraneous invention (foreword to the Lolita screenplay).

[...] at a private screening, I had discovered that Kubrick was a great director, that his Lolita was a first-rate film with magnificent actors, and that only ragged odds and ends of my script had been used. [The alterations] made the picture as unfaithful to the original script as an American poet's translation from Rimbaud or Pasternak.

(It should be noted, that while it is well known that VN loathed Doktor Zhivago, he held Pasternak's early poetry in high esteem)
