The sea softly splashed onto the beach, as the sun was about to crest the morning sky. On the horizon the water gleamed red as did the clouds as they drifted along the edge of the sea. I stood listening to the gulls call out as they sought their morning meal. “Begging your pardon... sir?.” a tiny voice not quite sure of itself came from behind me. I turned about to see what the matter was.

As I turned the sun had just broken the horizon and as my eyes fell upon her so did the first rays of the sun. Her strawberry blond hair caught by an early morning sea breeze played about her shoulders and caressed her cheeks softly. As I gazed into her emerald green eyes I could see a fiery spark that lit up her face. I smiled gently and asked “What may I do for my lady?”. Her face lit up with a breath taking smile of approval for my use of such a title. “Mum says that I should fetch you for breakfast. She said you must be ravished since you arrived after the kitchen had closed last night.”.

It was a small country inn, out off the way and on a stretch of the beach that got little attention from the tourists. Nothing was open in the nearby village after the sunset. There where few modern luxuries here, and that was what drew me to this particular inn. I was so taken by her beautiful eyes and how they warmed my heart. I realized that I was just standing there with no attempt to move. I was feeling a bit awkward when she smiled and said “Our tea will get cold if we just stand about.”. She was remarkably well spoken for someone of her tender age though somehow it fit her.

I force myself to look away from this little girls mystical eyes and started toward the inn. She reached up and took my hand as I was about to pass her by. She was barely waste high walking beside me. Holding my hand firmly as if she never intended to let go. I sat in the little nook on the porch that looked out over the sea and the near by gardens. A table was laden with the food the inn keeper had set out for our morning meal, and fresh pot of steeping hot tea. I bid the keep a good morn, and took my place and began to eat slowly while enjoying the beauty of this place. I wish I could say whether I was facing the sea or the gardens? But my eyes never saw past the little girls sparkling emerald green eyes.
