You are aware, I hope, that the movie, Lolita, is based off of a book by Vladamir Nabokov of the same title. I should very much hope members of "Annabel Leigh dot net" are at least familiar with one of the two movies (the newer movie is personally my favorite adaptation of the book). And speaking of Annabel Leigh, the Edgar Allen Poe poem, "Annabel Lee," is wonderful, in my opinion. Read it as you read the the chapters concerning Annabel Leigh in Lolita.

As far as I am aware, Nabokov did not particularly approve of pedophilia, and frankly, Humbert Humbert was a vile, disgusting, wretched human being (though no more vile, disgusting, and wretched than Lolita herself). He was controlling, overbearing, cruel, and obscenely obsessed with sex. Did he love Lolita? I have little doubt that he did. That does not diminish his depravity. It is most certainly an excellent book, but it was not written in a good light for pedophilia.

As far as the movies go, the main point I fault the newer movie on was the line "fuck you too, kangaroo" or whatever it was of that nature that Lolita says early in the movie. The Lolita that Humbert saw prior to their sexual relationship beginning would never have said that. While she may have said things like that during that time, the story is written from Humbert's perspective and at that point he was seeing nothing but the good in her (H.H. even comments later in the book on Lolita using language he would have never thought a girl of her age to know, let alone use). Lolita was, however, quite an awful girl. Beautiful? Certainly. However, she was manipulative, deceptive, foolish, bitter, and her mother was completely right about her, though probably part of the reason that Lolita was that way.

As for Leon, I adore that movie, though the ending is very sad. I would have much preferred an ending where the two had a "happily-ever-after." Good movie, though I'm not quite sure how much of a girl lover Leon truly was. It was nice to see, though, the girl initiate all GL related matters, rather than promote the idea of "grooming," with Leon leading her to these things with "evil" intentions. And yes, Natalie Portman was extremely attractive (she still is, for an adult).

As for the youtube video, it is related, so it might be acceptable, though I don't think it's purpose would really do much to support the main topic of the thread. If you had included it, I doubt it would be removed, but that's all at the discretion of the mods. At this point, anyone interested should be more than capable of finding it on their own.
